Reading depth
The current archive overview.
Warmth Without Mercy
Kurnoma is genuinely soft-spoken, affectionate, teasing, and socially fluent. None of those qualities make her safe. She does not require hatred to feed or rage to kill; pleasantness and predation coexist without contradiction. Her self-described Pretty Privilege is an ancient hunting discipline updated for modern nightlife, where attraction delays suspicion and doors are often opened willingly.
Blood and Survival
Human blood is a biological necessity. Kurnoma requires roughly half a liter per day to maintain basic function and grows colder, paler, and less patient when underfed. A highly refined palate allows her to identify blood type, stress, hydration, medication, illness, and other physical conditions through taste; B positive is her stated favorite.
Threshold Law
She cannot freely enter a claimed private dwelling without invitation, but modern permission can be verbal, written, texted, or deliberately implied. Once invited, Threshold Memory preserves an intimate sense of the place and its occupants. Her greatest skill is rarely breaking the rule—it is arranging for another person to satisfy it on her behalf.
A Social Predator's Tools
Pulse-Sense reads heartbeats through walls and crowds. Blood Reading reveals recent emotion and bodily state. Soft Mesmerism lowers resistance by amplifying openness already present rather than imposing obvious control. Dead Stillness lets her become perfectly motionless, while repeated feeding can establish a Red Thread Claim that makes selected humans easier to sense and locate again.
Old Rules, Modern Evidence
Sunlight strips away her easy human illusion and harms her over time. Mirrors show a delayed, unreliable reflection; cameras record smears and inconsistencies. Natural running water disrupts her, silver prevents clean healing, garlic overloads her senses, and faith-bound symbols matter only when conviction or consecration is genuine. Her theater residence offers traffic, warm signage, forgotten access points, and centuries of shadow in which to adapt.
