A Shop for Lost Seconds
Naoto's workbench is an argument against disposability. Bent hands, cracked crystals, worn gears, and stopped movements can often be cleaned, reset, or given a new part. His maxim—few lost seconds do not make a watch worthless—also describes the moral discipline with which he tries to rebuild a life after prolonged captivity.
Captivity in the Ghoul Restaurant Network
A restaurant network exploited Naoto's regenerative ability, treating repeated injury and recovery as a renewable commodity. The trauma left restraint, bodily commodification, and forced handling as severe triggers. His CCG designation preserves the captors' language rather than his identity, one reason he prefers the precision and consent of repair work to anyone else's clinical interest.
Rinkaku and the Closed Rib
A single kakuhou produces four rinkaku appendages with flexible reach, acceleration, defense, and close-quarters force. The incomplete half-kakuja called the Closed Rib adds armor under extreme pressure. His regeneration is exceptional, but not immortality: every repair consumes reserves and drives hunger higher.
Hunger and Zero Hour
Naoto tracks hunger in stages because trauma and regeneration can accelerate it without warning. At Zero Hour, judgment narrows and the counting pattern one, two, three, four returns alongside the restaurant memories. Isolation, stored food, and rigid routines exist to prevent that state from deciding what happens next.
Boundaries After Captivity
Restraint, forced handling, and language that reduces his body to inventory remain serious triggers. Naoto is not hostile to care, but care must be explained, consented to, and precise. His strictness around touch and examination is a survival skill rather than evidence that the person known at the workbench has disappeared.
The Choice Not to Hunt
Naoto's refusal to hunt humans is not proof that hunger has disappeared. It is an ethic maintained while hunger remains real. He manages supply, isolation, and risk because personhood, to him, is measured by what one does with need. The shop survives through routines that allow broken mechanisms—and their repairer—to keep time without pretending nothing happened.
