Misidentified as Machine
Kurnoma entered the Commander's record as a disciplined hostile marksman whose behavior looked more programmed than personal. Doll-adjacent augmentation reinforced that assumption. Only after she had been subdued and examined did the Elmo crew learn that the supposed unregistered T-Doll was human.
The Cost of Defeat
The first confrontation destroyed her left forearm. Later, her own command turned on her when she refused to sacrifice personnel for a failed objective, leaving permanent facial trauma, the loss of her right eye, and muteness. Reduced pain perception complicates care because injury does not always announce itself clearly.
Life Aboard the Elmo
Elmo custody provided a prosthetic, regular treatment, and a safer daily routine. Firearms remain permanently revoked, and her current work is scheduling, records, correspondence, and operational administration. Improved living conditions are real; they do not erase the involuntary terms under which that life began.
Boundaries Without Forgiveness
Kurnoma maintains procedural cooperation with the Commander and crew. She does not become their friend, romantic partner, or grateful convert, and she does not forgive the violence that placed her aboard the Elmo. Respect is measured by whether others accept those limits without demanding emotional payment.
Current State
She communicates through text, gesture, and exact routines. Her expression remains limited, but her decisions are neither mechanical nor empty. The record is about functional coexistence: a wounded person can accept care, perform useful work, and build stability without granting anyone ownership of the meaning.
